This is an old revision of the document!
This demo is targeted towards the Olimex LPC-L2294 board, with 1 MB external RAM and 2 MB external Flash EEPROM.
For software development, the Crossworks for ARM IDE from Rowley was used, in combination with the Olimex ARM-USB-TINY-H JTAG interface to program the bootloader into the internal flash on the LPC2294 microcontroller. However, this is not required if you have another means of programming the internal flash.
Please note that the board that was used for the demo had a modified external crystal oscillator of 20 MHz, instead of the standard 14.74 MHz crystal to allow for better matching CAN baudrate. If you use the 14.74 MHz crystal, please update configurable BOOT_CPU_XTAL_SPEED_KHZ in file “config.h”.
Before the bootloader can be used, it needs to be built and programmed into the LPC2294's internal flash memory. The steps in this section only need to be done once.
Simply open the project from within CrossWorks. The project file is located at: \Target\Demo\ARM7_LPC2000_Olimex_LPC_L2294_Crossworks\Boot\ide\
The bootloader program is now ready to be programmed into the internal flash memory of the LPC2294. Using your favorite programmer, flash the bootloader using one of the following files, depending on what file type your programmer supports:
The Microboot utility needs to be configured to connect to the correct COM-port and to communication at the correct baudrate:
Once you saved the settings by clicking the “OK”-button twice, you can close Microboot by clicking the “Cancel”-button on the main screen. Microboot is now ready for action!
Simply open the project from within CrossWorks. The project file is located at: \Target\Demo\ARM7_LPC2000_Olimex_LPC_L2294_Crossworks\Prog\ide\
The output file is
To download this demoprog_olimex_lpc_l2294_20mhz.sx (or .srec) file to the remaining flash memory using the bootloader, start the Microboot program and click the “Browse”-button. Browse to the “\Target\Demo\ARM7_LPC2000_Olimex_LPC_L2294_GCC\Prog\bin\” directory and select the demoprog_olimex_lpc_l2294_20mhz.sx file to start the download.
Once the download completed, the newly programmed software will be started by the bootloader. You can verify this by checking that the status LED blinks. Congratulations! That's all there is to using the bootloader.
